Empagliflozin is also used in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart disease to lower the risk of death from heart attack or stroke. Empagliflozin works by increasing the removal of sugar by your kidneys.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney problems (such as kidney dialysis), liver problems, dehydration, use/abuse of alcohol, heart failure, low blood pressure, high cholesterol, history of yeast infections in the vagina or penis.
